Use vinegar. it will work to dissolve the hard water deposit. Let it sit over night. Rinse. Add water and vinegar (about half & half) and run it for an hour or so to clean all the tubes and such.
I use a mild white vinegar/distilled water mix 20/80. Then if you wanted to you could use distilled water in it all the time. That would prolong the life of the humidifier and add a little time between cleanings. If you can’t stand the smell of vinegar you could try the CLR I haven’t used it in my own so I can’t give you an opinion on that.
I clean mine out with vinegar and rinse well. Get some distilled water for it.
