How do you get dog urine out of carpet?
Melissa asked:
I have a carpet cleaner but what kind of chemical will get the smell out?
I have tried every carpet cleaning chemical on the market and that stuff made for pet odors is a joke! Has anyone found any home concoction that works, something else that I could use along with my carpet cleaner?

Well, dog urine is difficult to remove from carpeting…. I would use some dissolved baking soda with your usual shampoo…. Baking soda is excellent at removing tough odors and generally will NOT harm most fabrics/finishes. I would just dissolve it in the water you would put in the tank of your machine… I think just adding it to the water might clog it up… So, dissolve it in HOT water first…. I use my wet/dry shopvac to remove tough stains/odors from my carpets…. I find it works better than most commercial carpet cleaners…. Also, I don’t have the exact recipe but, the guys from mythbusters have a concoction for getting rid of “skunk smell” which would probably work for urine as well. Just type in MYTHBUSTERS and I’m sure you can find it pretty easily….
Good luck…
Vinegar at a 1:3 or 1:4 ratio mix with water. Im not a chemist and don’t remember the specifics, but something in vinegar counters the urine.
