can a formica countertop be resealed ?

nulisecundus asked:

we recently bought a home that has a formica countertop in the kitchen. It seems as though someone used a harsh chemical to clean it. Now simple coffee stains are very hard to remove. Is there anything that can reseal the surface?

No, you can’t replace the top layers of formica. You can rough it up even more and tile over it, or you can replace formica for much less money than any other counter surface.

no,and tiling over existing formica is not a smart move, the contact cement used will eventually weaken and your tile will start to loosen and pop off.

Roughened up, a second layer of Formica over the first is a no brain-er. It’s done regularly without a problem.
